Lugard Road had been left unoccupied for over ten years and is a two storey terraced house situated within the vibrant East London district of Peckham.
The house is located in a typical early Edwardian residential terraced street outside of a conservation area in East London. The remodelling looks to turn a single fronted tired terraced house into a contemporary family home.
Our concept and challenge was to breathe new life into all floors, whilst respecting the heritage of this quintessential London terraced building.
Great respect was given to the typology of the terraced house. The run down fabric of the existing building required extensive refurbishment with a sensitive approach. Internally the composition of suites of rooms around the stair space at each level was retained and enhanced where possible, whilst the addition of a contemporary rear and side extension compliment and update these internal changes within the rest of the house. Materiality was very important to help produce a sensitive contemporary design that assisted in our adaptive approach.
